CIArb-NAB’s monthly webinar series “Ask the Arbitrator” proudly presents an interview with, Chartered Arbitrator, José Antonio Rodríguez-Márquez, from Mexico, on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. EST/ 11:00 a.m. Mexico Time.
Mr. Rodríguez-Márquez is the former (4th) Chairperson of the North American Branch of CIARB. For more than 20 years, Mr. Rodríguez-Márquez was a member of the NAB Executive Committee. He is highly experienced as a sole arbitrator, chair, and co-arbitrator in a variety of national and international arbitrations, including but not limited to commercial, insurance, shareholders disputes, joint ventures, franchises, industrial property, construction, real estate, infrastructure, electricity generating plants, water treatment plants, oil and gas, and mergers & acquisitions. Mr. Rodríguez-Márquez is a passionate advocate for the adoption of ADR principles and techniques in all industries and business relationships.
Emilia Beuger, a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law will interview José Rodríguez-Márquez to gain insights into his professional journey. Emilia has an LL.M. in Public International Law from Utrecht University, in Netherlands. She is interested in commercial litigation and international commercial arbitration.

He has authored several legal publications, including “The Mediator’s Profile,” “International Tax Arbitration,” as well as “Commercial Arbitration and Public Brokerage” and “Current Position of Mexico before Tax Arbitration”. Mr. Rodríguez-Márquez received his Doctorate Degree from the Mexican Academy of International Law, with the Award of the Mexican Order of Law, Culture and Peace (Title of Commander). He received his Law Degree, Summa Cum Laude from the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
During law school, Emilia worked in-house for a corporation and then as a Summer Associate at Troutman Pepper, focusing on business litigation. She has competed in the Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition twice and is a student member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
