Elsa Ortega López is a Mexican lawyer and arbitrator with more than 20 years of experience in large and complex cases of international commercial arbitration. She represents clients in domestic and international commercial arbitration proceedings both ad hoc and administered by several arbitral institutions, as well as has been involved in investor-State proceedings under Chapter XI of the NAFTA. She co-authored the book Ley Mexicana de Arbitraje en Materia Comercial, is a professor on international commercial arbitration at the Universidad Anahuac in Mexico City, and is a frequent speaker on dispute resolution at seminars both in Mexico and abroad. Elsa is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, part of the ICDR International Panel of Arbitrators and Mediators, and chair of the ICDR Translation Committee.

Since 2008, she is a member of the Advisory Committee on Private Commercial Disputes of the NAFTA, today the USMCA, by appointment of the Mexican government.

Elsa graduated with distinction from the Escuela Libre de Derecho in Mexico City, and obtained an LL.M. in European Legal Studies from the College of Europe in Brugge, Belgium, and a Diploma on International Trade Negotiations from the Colegio de México in Mexico City.

She is a founding partner of Ortega & Gómez Ruano, law firm based in Mexico City, where her practice is focused on international commercial arbitration, commercial transactions and corporate law. For several years, Elsa has appeared in Chambers Latin America, Chambers Global, Who\'s Who Legal Mexico and Best Lawyers in Mexico.
