Join an interactive discussion of the unique issues that can arise in the international arbitration of intellectual property disputes.

Moderated by Merriann M. Panarella, the panelists, Mr. Thomas Halket and Mr. David Evans will be discussing the pros and cons of publishing IP awards, the often unsettled yet complex choice of law issues, and who decides the scope of the arbitration when the agreement allocates certain issues to the courts and others to arbitrators.

Thomas Halket is an independent arbitrator and Adjunct Professor at Fordham Law School where he teaches courses on International Arbitration Law, Commercial Technology, Licensing and Entrepreneurship.  He was previously the co-partner in charge of Bingham McCutchen’s Commercial Technology Practice and Co-Chair of the Technology and the Emerging Company Group of Hughes, Hubbard & Reed LLP.  Mr. Halket is a past President of the Chartered institute of Arbitrators, a member of the College of Commercial Arbitrators, and a past Chair of the ABA’s Section of Science and Technology.

David L. Evans is counsel to the law firm of Murphy & King, P.C. in Boston, Massachusetts. For more than 35 years, he has represented both corporations and individuals in the resolution of complex business disputes. Currently, Mr. Evans serves exclusively as an arbitrator and mediator, and has presided over more than 350 cases, domestic and international. Mr. Evans is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Arbitration Association and is a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators. He is a member of numerous arbitration panels including CPR, the Court of Arbitration for Sport, WIPO, LCIA and the ICC (North America).

Merriann M. Panarella, formerly a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, is an arbitrator and mediator focusing on complex commercial, international, and intellectual property matters. She is a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators and serves on the arbitration panels of many leading dispute resolution institutions, including the AAA, ICC, WIPO, CPR, and is a member of the Tech List of the Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center. She is a frequent lecturer and author on a broad range of arbitration topics.
