Peter R. Day is the principal of Mercer Island Arbitration Chambers International, LLC, and is a Fellow and Approved Faculty member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and chair of the Seattle Chapter of its North America Branch.  He has considerable experience as a sole arbitrator and panel member on cases ranging from investment, intellectual property, currency trading and general business disputes.

He is a member of the arbitration panels of the International Chamber of Commerce, London Court of International Arbitration, International Centre for Dispute Resolution, China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), Beijing Arbitration Commission, World Intellectual Property Organization, Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration, and the American Arbitration Association.

Before beginning his practice as an arbitrator, he spent 25 years in the Boeing legal department, including 9 years as Chief Counsel for Boeing Computer Services.  He has extensive experience in a wide variety of domestic and international business transactions, including aircraft finance, intellectual property, outsourcing, business acquisitions and divestitures, and construction contracting and litigation.

Prior to joining Boeing, he was a Deputy District Attorney in San Mateo County, California, where he tried 22 jury trials.  He began his legal career as a Marine Corps trial lawyer in Vietnam and Japan, and subsequently Chief Prosecutor and Court-martial Judge at Camp Pendleton, California.  As a reservist, his assignments include Court-martial Judge, Assistant Legal Advisor for the U.S. European Command in Stuttgart, Germany, and Information Systems Officer for the 4^th Landing Support Battalion.

He has taught International Commercial Arbitration at the University of Washington School of Law and has coached its team at the annual Vis moot arbitration competition in Hong Kong and Vienna since 2008.  He has taught Business Law and International Law at the MBA and undergraduate level at the Albers School of Business and Economics at Seattle University.  For 15 years he has also taught trial and deposition practice for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy Seattle and San Diego programs.

From 2012 to 2015, he co-sponsored workshops on cross-examination in international arbitration in Beijing, Shanghai (co-sponsored with WunschArb) and Vienna, Austria (co-sponsored by the ICC Austria and the Dorda Brugger Jordis law firm).  In 2016, he was an instructor for the “International Dispute Resolution Masterclass” in Beijing (co-sponsored by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and UNCITRAL.

He received a B.A. from Yale University and a J.D. from the University of San Francisco.  Following two semesters of study at the University of the Saar, Germany (including one semester of European Union law at its Europa-Institut), he earned a Diplôme d\'études supérieures spécialisées in management as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Grenoble, France.  He also attended a four-week French language executive program at the INSEAD international business school in France.
