The webinar is the final in a three-part series on Climate Change, Decarbonization, and International Dispute Resolution that explores the intersection of business, public policy, and legal issues relating to the Paris Agreement targets and deep decarbonization efforts. Introduced by M. Imad Khan and moderated by Paul Barker, the panelists Annette Magnusson, Marisa Martin, and Wendy Miles QC will discuss the growing momentum of the Race to Zero across the private sector, and the role of law and lawyers in facilitating and accelerating client goals to achieve net zero.
Panelist Bios:
Annette Magnusson is Co-Founder of Climate Change Counsel and immediate past Secretary General of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (2010-2021) with more than 20 years’ experience of international law. Ms Magnusson is a frequent speaker and writer on arbitration and climate change, founder of the crowdsourcing initiative Stockholm Treaty Lab, and producer of the documentary film The Quiet Triumph.
Marisa Martin is an Executive Director at Pollination Capital Partners and is based in Chicago. Marisa has deep experience advising global clients on climate change law and policy, including the implementation of the Paris Agreement, carbon transactions, and nature-based climate solutions. She has been recognised as an ‘Emerging Lawyer’ in Environmental Law by Leading Lawyers; and an ‘Associate to Watch’ in Climate Change by Chambers.
Wendy Miles QC is a barrister at Twenty Essex in London. Wendy is recognised as a leading specialist in international arbitration and public international law. In the field of climate change and finance, Wendy advises major corporates, investors and States. She co-chaired the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Task Force on Climate Change Related Disputes and has represented the ICC at the Conferences of the Parties on climate since 2015.
Moderator Bios:
Paul Barker is a barrister in independent practice at Doughty Street Chambers in London and a Research Fellow at Stanford Law School’s Gould Center in Silicon Valley, where he focuses on renewable energy, sustainable investment and climate change policy. Paul is recognized as a leading barrister and arbitration lawyer by Who’s Who Legal.
Imad Khan is an international disputes lawyer with particular expertise in investment treaty arbitration and commercial arbitration. He advises companies across diverse economic sectors, including energy, O&G, electricity, and renewables. Imad holds leadership positions with CIArb and the ICDR, and teaches international law and arbitration at Washington University School of Law.
