The Washington, DC Chapter of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) is pleased to announce its inaugural event to commemorate the official “Re”-launch of the Chapter. All are welcome to this event to gather our existing Chapter members, “re”-introduce CIArb to the DC arbitration community, and attract new members, including law students.
Please contact Chapter Chair, Susan Franck, with any questions.
This event will feature Katherine Smith-Dedrick, the Chair of the North America Branch of CIArb, who will introduce CIArb and explain the ways in which CIArb can help develop a career as an arbitrator. Michael Nolan, a CIArb Fellow and member of our Chapter, will deliver a thought-provoking keynote address entitled “The U.S.’s Distinctive Competence-Competence Law: Implications for Treaty-Based Arbitrations.” The event will conclude with a networking session in break-out rooms. A little bit of everything!

Katherine is a commercial neutral with the American Arbitration Association, an arbitrator with FINRA, a Fellow, Board and Executive Committee Member of the Certified Institute of Arbitrators headquartered in London (international arbitration), and a neutral with the International Institute of Conflict Prevention and Resolution.
Michael Nolan is an independent arbitrator based in New York and Washington, DC. He is a CIArb Fellow and a member of the Washington, DC Chapter of CIArb NAB.
